During this event, I had the honor of attending the "Lace Up for Lupus" 5K, a meaningful event created by Sophie Myers. My sisters and I were grateful to support by sharing our time, energy, and connections to help bring this day to life!

Hello, my name is John Quartararo.

I'm 24 years old!

I've been fundraising ever since the 5th grade.

 

Here is My Story...

Lupus has impacted my life tremendously,

I lost the bond I could have had with my biological father. His loss has impacted my whole family. In 2003, my dad passed away from complications of this disease, which left my mother with three kids to raise. 

​

During the time of this passing, my twin sister Brianna and I were only two years old. My oldest sister, Alyssamarie, was six at the time of his death. Brianna and I are both 24 years old, and Alyssamarie is 28 years old.

 

If you're unfamiliar with lupus, here is some information about the disease. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that affects the white blood cells in the body, making it impossible to fight off infections, and millions of Americans are diagnosed yearly; 90% of them are women. My dad was in the 10% of men.

 

 I was very little when my dad passed away, and I didn't get to know him much. I have learned about my dad through pictures and videos; I'm very appreciative of these memories! 

 

Also, I was unable to provide any assistance to my dad due to my young age. Early in life, I had the opportunity to raise awareness and funds in his memory. Sadly, I can't help my dad anymore, but his memory lives. I learned to help others dealing with the pain of lupus!

I hope that he is smiling down on me. 

 

I love my dad, and I think about him every day!
